Real Name: Erik Magnus Lehnsherr
Mutant Name: Magneto
Height and Weight: 6'2" 190 lbs.
Physical Description: Erik's hair color has turned silver with age but his eyes remain a steely bluish-grey. As you ll know his suit is complimented by a long black cape, red on the reverse side, and a helmet composed entirely of metal. His helmet is designed to prevent telepathic intrusion or psionic attacks
Mutant Powers: Magneto is the Master of Magnetism, he has the power to control all types of metal. He possesses the power to control all forms of magnetism. He can shape and manipulate magnetic fields that exist naturally or artificially. It is unclear, however, whether he must draw magnetic force from outside himself (if so, then he can do so over vast distances), or whether he can also generate magnetic force from within himself. Nor is it clear whether Magneto's power is psionic or purely physiological in nature. He can also use this power to create a magnetic field around himself for protection or to alter the magnetic field around him, allowing him the ability to levitate himself. Magneto's power is, for all practical purposes, limitless.
It has also been said that Magneto has a minimal degree of telepathy, altering the flow or iron through a person's blood stream to their brain to "control" their thoughts.
Basic History: After witnessing the brutal murder of his family by the Nazis, the man known as Magnus was sent to the Auschwitz death camp where he served in the Sonderkommando, the squad of Jewish men who helped their Nazi masters operate the gas chambers, ovens, and fire pits of the camp.
However, he managed to survive the Holocaust, only to years later meet with Charles Xavier. The two became friends until it became apparent that their views of humanity were far from the same, Xavier preached of peace between with humans while Magneto took a more offensive approach, believing that mutants should be the dominant species on the planet. He dubbed mutants homo sapiens superior. Since taking this militant stance, he has made several attempts to make his version of the world a reality, including a machine to make humans into mutants that he planned to use on all the leaders of the world and a plan to use Xavier himself to kill all the humans through the use of Cerebro. Both attempts were foiled by the X-Men, so Magneto went into hiding.
It wasn't until word spread of a cure for mutants that Magneto resurfaced, forming an army of mutants to oppose the cure, the group included the X-Men's own Jean Grey, then known as the Dark Pheonix. He felt a great loss when his friend Charles Xavier was killed while recruiting Jean, his only regret in trying to make his dream come true. In a last stand to stop the cure on Alcatraz island Magneto was himself cured by the X-Men. But since then his powers have slowing been returning. The day is soon arriving when the Master of Magnetism will return and once again try to shape the world into his vision that mutants will reign supreme.
