(Suddenly both Elizabeth and ECKS are on Chris's bed with ECKS head in her lap. Elizabeth is panting heavily from the tandem. She slowly edges out from under him, taking care not to disturb her shoulder, and lays his head on the pillow. She takes a step a way from him and is gone. She returns moments later carrying a glass of water. She sits the cup on the table and slides herself under his head.)
Elizabeth: Come on EKCS. Let us see if we can get you better.
(She dips one of herthree into the water and runs it across ECKS's lips to try to get a response.)

(Just minutes after getting him inside, Nightcat watches in amazement as the sunburn on his exposed face and hands starts to instantly heal themselves. He drinks a little of the water and in only a matter of seconds all of ECKS' exposure burns have completely healed over. His eyes open and with a sudden burst he sits up and starts looking around. Then he sees Nightcat, pauses for a second to process everything, then looks back at her.)
ECKS: "I'm not sure what feels weirder, the bomb that made me feel like I was on acid or the telelporty thing you just did. But I appreciate it. I don't know how yet, but somehow he found a way to wipe out my healing factor. Some kind of gas bomb."
(ECKS stops and tries to remember what all he may have said in his dazed state. Then remembers that he mentioned Smith and Ana, two people from a past he's been trying to uncover for years.)
ECKS: "I know that nothing I said earlier makes much sense, but I really don't wanna involve anyone else, this is something I need to take care of on my own. Don't need anyone else gettin' hurt 'cause of my past. I just found out that someone I thought died years ago is actually very alive, and I have to find her. I'm sorry if I scared you."
(ECKS stands and walks to the window. He tries to think of the easiest way to say what he knows he has to say.)
ECKS: "I don't have a lead to where she may be yet, but when I do, I'm going to find her... alone. I'm sorry. I know that I said I'd always be here but this is something that I have to do. This is my home though, so when I figure this out, I will be back. I promise that."
(ECKS turns around to face Nightcat again.)
ECKS: "You understand, right?"

(Elizabeth looks over at ECKS with a tired look in her eyes. She is still panting heavily from the tandem teleport. but her breathing even as she talks)
Liz: if you really must leave, then do so. This girl you were talking about means a lot to you. Go and find her. I understand completely.

ECKS: "She means the world. And this guy, Smith, he's proven that he wants me to find him. He wants me to...
(ECKS decides that he should keep the part about Smith's offer to join him a secret for now.)
ECKS: "If he comes back he may come back in force, with an army like Stryker did at Xavier's mansion. And I can't have him hurting anyone here. I won't let that happen, that's why I'm gonna have to go. To keep him from comin' back."
(He notices Nightcat is still a little out of breath.)
ECKS: "You gonna be ok, I know the tandem thing really takes it out of you?"

(liz looks up at ECKS.)
Liz: Ja. I am going to be fine. The tantem thing is still a little hard, but it is worse not because of my shoulder. And I am truly happy for you to have found her again. Do what you must. I know that you have been waiting to long for this moment. I will be there with you. The telepathic link between us is strong now and I might be able to help you. Go now if you must. Gute Glück mein Freund.

ECKS: "I'm just gonna pack for now. When I have actually have some way to find this new base I'll be leavin' as soon as I can. Just make sure you and Rogue help each other take care of the new students. Hopefully with me gone Smith will have no reason to return here."
ECKS: "But if he does, you have to protect them. No matter what that means. You're gonna have to take over in my spot while I'm gone. But I know you can handle it."

(Liz jumps up and hugs her mentor, being careful of her arm.)
Liz: oh Danke, danke, danke, danke. It means so much to me that you have that kind of confidence in me. I will not fail you ECKS. Now go. And be careful.
(She pushes herself up onto the tips of her feet and kisses ECKS on the cheek. She takes a step back and vanishes in a puff of smoke.)

(ECKS reaches up and gently touches the spot on his cheek that Nightcat just kissed. He actually seems to smile through his tough guy exterior. He turns and looks at the mirror and says something to himself.)
ECKS: "Thanks. They'll be fine. I know it. They can handle anything together."
(Then he turns to his closet. He walks over and grabs a bag from the top shelf in the closet then starts packing.)
