(The jet had landed about ten minutes ago and because of its cloaking device it hadn't appeared on any of the base's radar. It stood on a cliff overlooking the base. Ana was pacing impatiently while Kitty and Jack sat still overlooking the base trying to find a way in. Kitty waited for Lockheed to return from a recon she had sent him while Jack was doing a mind scan of the entire base.)
Shadowcat: The way things look... I'm guessing this place already just went through an attack.
Ana: Then lets get down there while they're still weak.
Shadowcat: Calm down, Ana. I understand why you're anxious, but after an attack everyone will be on high alert. First, we need to find a way to sneak in.
(Ana continued her pacing while Lockheed flies back to Kitty. Through their pyschic connection, Kitty learns about the base's outside security. Jack finishes with his mind scan and joins the others.)
Shadowcat: Security outside is tight. Looks like we're not walking through the front door.
Mindcontrol: Our best bet is using your phasing power on getting us in there. I found an area in the northeast with the least amount of people, only 4. One of them is stationary, two are revolving, and one is unconscious. Only tricky thing is that there're probably cameras in the hallways. We could be seen.
Ana: We'll take that chance. Kitty, it would take a lot to phase us from here so you just get us there and Jack and I will take care of any soldiers.
Shadowcat: Alright. Lockheed, stay out here in case we get in trouble. If we need you, I'll call for you.
(Lockheed growled in disapproval. He hated it when Kitty told him to stay, but he listened none the less. Kitty held out her arms as Ana and Jack grabbed ahold of them and Kitty began to phase them into the base.)

(Inside the base, the soldier was standing guard outside the detention cell. The revolving soldiers were due back an minute now. It is then that Kitty phases with Ana and Jack. The soldier is caught in surprise and is about to pull his gun when Jack enters his mind and renders him unconscious. As the soldier falls, so does Kitty. She's on her hands and knees as she tries to catch her breath from the phasing she had just done. Ana takes care of the camera before joining Jack who awaits for the other two soldiers. The soldiers round the corner and see Kitty gasping for breath.)
Soldier: What the hell...
(Jack and Ana quickly handle the two soldiers and both fall to the ground. Kitty shakes off the dizziness and stands up.)
Mindcontrol: You okay?
Shadowcat: Yeah, I'm fine now. Well that's the three soldiers... But where's the unconscious one?
Mincontrol: He's behind that door.
(Jack points to the door behind Kitty that the first soldier was guarding. Kitty takes a deep breath and goes to phase her head through the door to see who is inside. Jack and Ana hear Kitty gasp as she then phases her whole body through the door. Kitty walks into the room and runs to the man unconscious inside.)
Shadowcat: Logan!
(She saw Wolverine chained and with an drip going into his arm, probably keeping him unconscious. Kitty removes the drip and phases him through the chains. It would take a while for the drip to leave his system, but with his healing abilities it might go a bit faster. She yells out to Jack and Ana.)
Shadowcat: It's Wolverine! He was captured too, but I've got him! You guys find the others! I'll get there as soon as I can!
(Jack and Ana continue to find the others as Kitty waits for either Wolverine to wake up or for her strength to return to go through another big phase back to the jet.)

(Smith enters the small room where Matthews is being hooked up to a machine. Doctor Catoire is reading his chart when he looks up to see Smith.)
Catoire: Hey, what happened? I woke up and they called me to the E.R. Were we under attack?
(Smith doesn't answer his question, but instead takes a needle and plunges it into Matthews's arm. As he pushes the plunger down, Catoire objects.)
Catoire: Sir, what are you doing? His immune system is fighting the adrenaline making him comatose. He's completely messed up. Anything else in his system might kill him.
Smith: We have intruders in the base. The detention cells have been found. Someone is in the room with Howlett. I can't take any chances. I need my best soldier.
(Smith leans over Radar and speaks his name. Radar's eyes flash open but they are full of drugs and deep black circles rim his eyes. He sits up and slides off of the bed. As he stands, he haunches on his feet and staggers.)
Catoire: Sir, the poor man looks like a friggin zombie.
Smith: But he can still fight.
(Smith turns to the comatose but semi-conscious Radar and gives his orders.)
Smith: Find the intruders and kill them. If anybody gets in your way, kill them too. Soldiers, mutants, I don't give a sh!t. Kill them all.
(Matthews manages a slight nod and then stumbles out of the room. Catoire goes to stand in his way, but Radar sends out an incapacitating brain wave and Catoire is rendered unconscious. Radar stumbles away, looking much like a zombie and with the desire to kill anybody.)

(Chaze steps outside the room to collect his thoughts and takes a deep breath in. It's in this brief sniff that he recognizes a scent that has been memorized in his mind. He tries to place the scent but when he can't he simply shrugs and decides to think about better things. As he re-enters the room, he sees Liz and the scent's origin immediately comes to him. His eyes widen as he realizes that the scent he remembers and smelled is one of the scents from the Next Gen Mansion in Pennsylvania. Chaze hurries over to Liz and takes her aside.)
Chaze: Your friends are here in the base. I suggest we get to them before anybody else does.
(Not wasting anytime, the three leave ECKS's in the safety of the secret room and explore the base. As they do so, they come across Radar who has found the other three X-men. Chaze sighs and walks over to Matthews)
Chaze: Johnson, are you all right. Sure you can be walking around like this?
(Radar spins and sends a sonic wave at Chaze. Wolf is thrown against the nearest wall and leaves a massive crater in its side. As Chaze sinks to the floor, all of his ribs cracked, he looks up at Radar to see his colleague stumbling like a zombie.)
Chaze: Oh man, this isn't good.
(Radar turns to the three X-men and sends an even more powerful sonic wave at them.)

(Liz gasps in shock, but she knows what to do.)
Liz: Oh Scheiße. I can not believe I am doing zis.
(Liz teleports to stand in front of her friends. She has seconds to do what she wants. Quickly she sends a message to Jack. It contains one word.)
Liz: Barrier.
(Jack nods and jumps up. As one, Liz and Jack bring their arms up and erect a phychic barrier just as the sonic wave hit. The wave was not stopped however. It's purpose was to dull it's blow. Liz and Jack are thrown back into Ana and Kitty. Liz looks up and smiles and them. But she quickly gets up and, with Jack, she lifts the group up with telekinese and hids them around the corner.)
Liz: Boy am I glad to see you zree. But I need to disable him. Jack. I need you to keep putting up barriers. Zey might not be as strong vith you alone, bu you can do es.
Jack: Can do Liz.
Liz: Kitty. I need you to valk vith me towards him.
Shadowcat: But what if he sends...
(Her words are cut short as another wave hits the wall.)
Shadowcat: That
Liz: Ve vill not ve soild
Shadowcat: Got it.
Liz: Ana. I am not going to tell you vas to do. I am not above you in ranking, but I vant you to stay vith Logan und make sure he stays here.
Ana: I understand Liz. And I will.
(Liz smiles and she nods to Kitty. Both raise and Kitty puts her hand on Liz's shoulder. They walk around the corner just as another wave is sent at them, but they keep walking. As they get next to him, Kitty lets go and Liz puts her hands on Radar's head. Plunging into his mind, she finds and triggers the nerve that induces consciousness. Within seconds, the man in on the floor, out cold.)
Liz: Crude, but effective.

(Chaze gets to his feet slowly trying not to disturb his ribs and the pain. As he does so, he transforms so his ribs are reinforced with another thicker sternum. As he stumbles around the corner, he stops in his tracks when he sees three people he doesnt' know. Liz is telling one of them that they did a great job at "phasing." Wolf simply groans and looks at the three. His groan alerted them to his presence and they all look at him getting defensive. Wolf is about to explain that he's a friend when he feels something slam into his leg. He falls to his knees and a hand grabs his head and shoves it into the wall. Chaze falls to the ground unconscious as Matthews stumbles back to his feet.)
(On any other occasion, Liz's trick would have worked extremely well. Unfortunately the real Matthews Johnson was still in a coma, locked away in his subconscious, slowly dying. The only thing that made his body stand before the X-Men now was the serum Smith had injected him with, a serum so potent he was fighting unconscious.)
(Radar sends a mental wave into Liz similar to the one she had sent into him. As she falls away in pain, Radar unleashes one of his strongest sonic waves at the group.)

(Luckly, Liz was wearing her armor under the outfit she was wearing, but the wave still caused damage. She looks up to see the others had grabbed hold of Kitty and she had phased them through the wave, but she looked tired. Closing her eyes, she calls out Nur. Slowly, her hair changes from blue to black and when her eyes open, they are bloodred. Holding out her arms, Liz lifts Matthews up with telekinese and slams him into the wall. Once again, Liz pushes into his mind and, with Nur's assisstance, is able to find the trigger nerve that is controling the serum. Somehow, Nur reached out himself and was able to nullify the effects to the point that Radar could fight it off himself and could begin to control his own actions. Slowly, Liz and Nur retreated from his mind, but for some reason, even after Nur retreated into the back of Liz's mind, she still looked the same.)

(Matthews collapsed against the wall, the serum suddenly losing its potency and making him sick. A second later, he turned his head and threw up. When he was finshed he turned to Liz, whose hair was still black and her eyes dark crimson. He managed a low whistle to get her attention and she turned to him. He tossed her a keycard. As she caught it, he fell over once more and started to slip into unconsciousness. As he did so, he muttered under his breath, hoping Liz or somebody would hear him.)
Matthews: Cell block 5-9A. It's unguarded and you'll have a better chance of hiding everyone safely. No cameras or guards in that corridor.
(Then the last of Matthews's conscious crumpled and his mind fell into a coma along with his body.)

(Liz took the keys and nodded. It seemed as if she would have to talk charge of the situation. Kitty was all but exhasted from her mulitple phasings, Jack seemed even worse off, Ana, though she was strong, couldn't carry any of the men, and Christina was still learning how to use her telekinese. She took a deep and looked around. She knew that she had to get her team to the Blocks that Matthews had directed them, but Matthews, Logan, Chaze, and Chris all had to be moved with them. She figured the only way to get them there was for her to teleport. So one by one, Liz stooped down beside one of her friends and teleported away. Soon, only she, Jack, Christina, Kitty, and Ana were left.)
Liz: Ok. I moved ze guys to a safe block. Ve need to join zem zere, but ve vill have to valk und fight to get zere. At least for a moment. I can not take anozer tandem teleport for a while. So come on. Let us get moving.
(She turned and started walking away, not looking back to see if the others would even follow her.)

(Chaze sits up and looks around. In the room, Matthews, ECKS and another man, with hair running down his face and bruises on his knuckles are unconscious. Chaze starts to stand up, but he's way too tired and he realizes he has a cut on his head from Matthew's attack. As he tends to the wound, he thinks about the future. He knows he'll have a bit of time to think about it, but he's all ready really and truthfully made up his mind. He smiles at the thought and makes a promise to himself that he will do it. Then he lies back down and tries to rest.)

(As Liz walked the away, the others began to follow. Christina helped with Kitty while Ana helped Jack. Soon the four of them had reached the cell block that Liz kept open for them. As soon as they were inside, Liz entered and shut the door.)
Shadowcat: Why are we in here? We have to get you guys out of here. The jet is about a mile or so away from the base.

(Liz turns to her friends with sadness in her now crimson eyes.)
Liz: Because of vas ve have. Chaze, Chris, und I are all infected vith En Sabah Nur. He ist vhy I look like zis. Our appearances und demeanor change vhen he comes to ze surface. Ve do not yet know how he vill effect Chris because he ist still fighting off possession, Chaze becomes a killing machine, und I, vhen I stil not too sure vas he vant me for. He gives me control vhen he ist on ze surface, but I do not trust meinself around ozers. I have to stay. Und now zat Ana ist here, Smith vill make sure you don't leave here.

(Matthews suddenly notices the black world around him. As he does, he realizes that Liz and the other X-Men are in the room along with Chaze, Logan, and ECKS. Matthews doesn't bother to roll his eyes, but instead simply groans and sits up slowly. He feels his chest and can see that he's not still bleeding profusely. He snaps his fingers and a small red band of sound waves wash over the room. He can see Liz almost clearly in the red wave, but the others are a blur. He turns and speaks in the general direction of the X-Men.)
Radar: Smith doesn't know Ana is here. He doesn't know any of you others are here. The point of this room is to keep it that way. Now I don't like or trust any of you, but I want all of this Nur bullsh!t to end so I'm going to help you.
(Matthews swings his feet over and stands up. As he does so, he sends a small sonic wave over to one of the adjacent cabinets and a rustling of weaponry is heard. Matthews smiles and turns to the others.)
Radar: If this deception is going to work, Ana, Kitty, and...
(Points to Jack.)
Radar: ....whoever the f@$k you are are going to have to do one of two things. You either stay in this room and wait for the opportune time to attack. If you do, you'll be getting commands from me, and you'll have to follow them if you don't want to be captured and detained. Or you can trust Liz that she knows what the hell she's doing and fly right back home to your pretty little mansion. Personally, I don't care which one you choose, but you should know, this is a war. People and mutants are dying, and you can't stay here just to be close to your friends and family or loved ones or whatever. That's horsesh!t, and I won't allow it.

(Liz turns at Radar's words. She knew that he had a point.)
Liz: Unfortunatly, I vill have to agree vith him. I am really playing zis whole zing by ear. I am learn new zings every day. I suggest zat ve follow his orders. He has been here ze longest. I do not like him very much, but I am beginning to trust vhat he says.
(The others suddenly start shouting at Liz.)
Shadowcat: How can you trust him? He's part of their organization! For all we know, he could be setting us up!
Ana: I agree with Kitty. He can't be trusted. If he thinks that he can tell me what to do, he's dead wrong!
Mindcontrol: I don't know who to trust! Well, I trust Kitty and Ana, but not him (he points at Radar). And I'm starting to think that I shouldn't trust you Liz.
(Liz closes her eyes as her team yells at her. She thought that they would trust her judgement of the man. Tears begin to fall and she sends out a small telekinetic blast that causes her team to fall to the ground.)

(Radar feels the wave sent out from Liz, and walks unsteadily a few steps. As he does so, he snaps his fingers and sees her team unconscious. He looks in her direction and sighs.)
Radar: This is what it comes to huh? Well, I guess everything happens for a reason.
(Radar walks over to the cabinet and pulls it open. He then turns to Liz.)
Radar: I'll take Ana now. I might have been unconscious when he sent me after you, but somehow I still heard his orders. I've got to give him something. Ana will do, and he won't hurt her like he would the others.
(Matthews pulls a Baretta from the cabinet and slides it into his holster. Then he looks at Christina and Liz.)
Radar: You're my allies now and I won't betray you. Besides, you did save my life. But when all this is over, I don't know if we'll still be on good terms. But one thing is certain, I'm still going to kill the wolf.
(Radar looks over his shoulder at Chaze even though he doesn't see him. Then he walks over to Ana and stoops to pick her up.)

(Liz blinks her displeasure at her fallen team, but she still nods in agreement. She then looks up and locks eyes with the blind man. She knows that if she talks, he will be able to see her.)
Liz: Wolf had a vision. A dream really. If zat dream comes true, you vill not be ze vone to kill him.
(All Christina does is nod and sit down on the bed that Radar just got off of. Liz could probe her mind to find out what she's thinking, but doesn't want to push her friend, so she leaves her be.)
Liz: Take Ana. Vhen Chaze vakes up, he und Christina can help me move Logan und Chris back to ze hospital ving. I vill come back here und make sure zat Kitty und Jack stay sadated. I know you know zis place better zan any of us, but I vant you to know, I lead my team vhen I need es. If zis ist going to vork, you need to trust mein judgement of vhat I zink zey vill do. You take orders from me when it comes to zem. Got es?
